The Beginning - Happy Anniversary!!!

Hello everyone and welcome to my little space in the big wide web.

Today is my 9th year in the UK!!!  This time 9 years ago I was all alone at Heathrow looking for someone with my name on a piece of card to take me to my new home.  I was in posession of one backpack filled with all my worldly posessions, and two cameras.  That was it!  Now I have a flat filled with all kinds of stuff, and a wardrobe that is about 10 times the size of the one that once filled that backpack, and the only thing in it that was made by me is a black tutu.

You have joined me literally at the beginning of my creative transformation. I am still building my little collection of staple sewing items and already I have a scary fabric stash.  It seems  I am my mother's daughter after all.

I am hoping to start sewing my first dress soon, but I want to ease myself into the process with a few easy projects.  I want to make as many Christmas presents as I can and I’m banning myself from buying more clothes, in an effort to inspire The Artisan.  Maybe I can make 2011 the year of the Artisan Seamstress???

I recently went shopping with my friend Judy in search of vintage treasures.  We both managed to find some lovely things, and found ourselves coveting even more.  Judy found a beautiful old Singer complete with cover and additional feet.  I managed to find a Vulcan classic sewing machine, and a bunch of old magazines from the 40s and 50s.  I will share some of the pics with you in all of the blogs to follow. The adverts are hilarious, and the hairdo’s are to die for.  Some of the most gorgeous victory rolls you have ever seen.  The best find were two magazines from what I thought were from the 1960s but what turned out to be from the 1860s.  They have beautifully drawn pictures of the fashions of the times and lovely descriptions and patterns of crochet and embroidery... Fear not folks, I’ll post them too.

Thanks for stopping by.  I hope you enjoy.
